Sophie is a country-girl at heart, spending her days split between working on her small farm and writing mystery novels. With her brother now living on his own ranch with her best friend, Sophie feels it's finally time to hire some help. The charismatic stranger who answers her advertisement is clearly not what he seems. The clothes don't sit right and he's clearly out of his depth. Yet there's something irresistible about him - a mystery she's keen to solve. Who is he and what is he hiding from?

When she finally uncovers his secret, it shakes her world. She'd fallen in love with Seb, but could she ever love Sebastian?

Life for Sebastian was an endless cycle of stress and obligation. His career dominated his life, and he just had to get away. Driving aimlessly, he comes upon a small country town and a quirky advertisement for a farmhand. On a whim, he answers it - hideously unprepared for what it would entail. He doesn't want to admit who he really is, things are much more peaceful and simple living life as 'Seb'. Yet secrets never last, and he is forced to give up the idyllic life he'd discovered.

He was looking for a temporary escape, but he found a new life and a woman to bring colour his once bleak existence.

“That night…” she started, swallowing her nerves. “You seemed to want me… but you stepped away…”

He took a shaky breath. “If I recall, it was you who pulled away first,” he pointed out softly. “I’m glad you did. I didn’t know how long I’d be able to stay being ‘Seb’, and I didn’t want to lead you on and then leave.”

She nodded. “If things were different?”

A hint of a smile played on his lips. “I’d still have stepped away, because I’m a gentleman.” He gave her a wink then went into his room and closed the door.

“Nothing is wrong. I just wanted to call to say goodnight...” he said meekly. “Sorry for making you run down the stairs. Do you not have a phone upstairs?”

She breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the sofa. “No, just the one. But it’s okay. I just panicked for a moment that it was bad news.”

“I’d normally send a text... but with you being old fashioned and all, it was this or carrier pigeon… or perhaps a town crier... but I didn’t know where to get one of those at this hour.”

She laughed, closing her eyes and imagining Sebastian’s cheeky grin as he said that. He sounded sleepy but she wasn’t sure how much of that was her old phone. “Are you already in bed?”

“I am...” he sounded amused. “If you’re about to ask what I’m wearing, then this conversation will end up a little differently to how I intended...”

“Stop it,” she giggled, blushing. Now she couldn’t get that image out of her head.
