There’s something not quite right about Sophie’s new farmhand.  He is polite, charming, well groomed and good looking.

… He is also scared of the animals!

The more she gets to know him, the more she’s convinced that he’s hiding something.  When she finally discovers the truth about the man she’s fallen in love with, it’s nothing she ever could have imagined.

They come from completely different worlds and there are a million reasons why they shouldn’t be together.

He stepped into her life looking for a change, and she got a whole lot more than she bargained for.

“Nothing is wrong. I just wanted to call to say goodnight...” he said meekly. “Sorry for making you run down the stairs. Do you not have a phone upstairs?”

She breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the sofa. “No, just the one. But it’s okay. I just panicked for a moment that it was bad news.”

“I’d normally send a text... but with you being old fashioned and all, it was this or carrier pigeon… or perhaps a town crier... but I didn’t know where to get one of those at this hour.”

She laughed, closing her eyes and imagining Sebastian’s cheeky grin as he said that. He sounded sleepy but she wasn’t sure how much of that was her old phone. “Are you already in bed?”

“I am...” he sounded amused. “If you’re about to ask what I’m wearing, then this conversation will end up a little differently to how I intended...”

“Stop it,” she giggled, blushing. Now she couldn’t get that image out of her head.

“That night…” she started, swallowing her nerves. “You seemed to want me… but you stepped away…”

He took a shaky breath. “If I recall, it was you who pulled away first,” he pointed out softly. “I’m glad you did. I didn’t know how long I’d be able to stay being ‘Seb’, and I didn’t want to lead you on and then leave.”

She nodded. “If things were different?”

A hint of a smile played on his lips. “I’d still have stepped away, because I’m a gentleman.” He gave her a wink then went into his room and closed the door.
