He took a shaky breath. “If I recall, it was you who pulled away first,” he pointed out softly. “I’m glad you did. I didn’t know how long I’d be able to stay being ‘Seb’, and I didn’t want to lead you on and then leave.”
She nodded. “If things were different?”
A hint of a smile played on his lips. “I’d still have stepped away, because I’m a gentleman.” He gave her a wink then went into his room and closed the door.
She breathed a sigh of relief and sat down on the sofa. “No, just the one. But it’s okay. I just panicked for a moment that it was bad news.”
“I’d normally send a text... but with you being old fashioned and all, it was this or carrier pigeon… or perhaps a town crier... but I didn’t know where to get one of those at this hour.”
She laughed, closing her eyes and imagining Sebastian’s cheeky grin as he said that. He sounded sleepy but she wasn’t sure how much of that was her old phone. “Are you already in bed?”
“I am...” he sounded amused. “If you’re about to ask what I’m wearing, then this conversation will end up a little differently to how I intended...”
“Stop it,” she giggled, blushing. Now she couldn’t get that image out of her head.
